How to Generate Lorem Ipsum Text for a Mockup or CMS Field

5 دقيقة قراءة

Here's the actual process for getting exactly the amount of placeholder text you need out of Lorem ipsum generator.

How a type and count turn into copyable Lorem Ipsum text A pipeline of three steps: choosing paragraphs, sentences or words, setting a count, and a resulting block of placeholder text ready to copy, optionally wrapped in HTML paragraph tags. Choose type paragraphs / sentences / words Set a count range depends on type Text ready copy, or wrap in <p>
The page shows real placeholder text the instant it loads - nothing to configure first.

Step 1 - the page already has real text on it

There's no empty state to click through - three paragraphs of classic Lorem Ipsum, starting with the familiar opening line, are already generated the moment the page loads. Click New text any time for a completely different arrangement of the same passage's vocabulary.

Step 2 - choose paragraphs, sentences, or words

Three units, each with its own sensible range: Paragraphs from 1 to 50 (default 3), Sentences from 1 to 200 (default 5), Words from 1 to 2,000 (default 50). Switching units automatically adjusts the count field's own min/max and clamps the current number into the new range, so you're never left with an out-of-range number from the unit you just left.

Step 3 - decide on the classic opening line

"Start with the classic opening" is on by default, which begins the output with the recognizable "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit." line - useful as a visual anchor everyone in design and publishing recognizes on sight. Turn it off for fully randomized text instead, which is worth doing specifically when you want a reviewer to actually register it as placeholder text rather than skimming past it as "the usual opening again."

Step 4 - wrap paragraphs in HTML tags if you need to

"Wrap paragraphs in <p> tags" (only available in Paragraphs mode) surrounds each paragraph in an opening and closing tag automatically, so the output pastes directly into an HTML source view or a CMS body field with every paragraph already correctly tagged - no manual cleanup needed afterward.

Step 5 - copy the result

Click Copy to put the exact visible text on your clipboard, ready to paste into whatever you're mocking up - the same text you can see on screen, not a re-generated batch, so what you copy is always what you already reviewed and approved for the page.

Where the text actually comes from

Every word is drawn from the traditional passage's own roughly 66-word vocabulary - the public-domain, centuries-old word pool every real Lorem Ipsum tool uses, not invented for this build. Sentence and paragraph lengths vary naturally around a realistic range rather than being perfectly uniform, so the output reads with the same rhythm real prose has, not a mechanically repeated pattern - which is exactly what makes it convincing enough to actually test a layout against.

Regenerating without losing your other settings

Clicking New text keeps your chosen type, count, and both checkboxes exactly as they were - it only reshuffles the actual words and sentences, so getting a fresh arrangement never means reconfiguring anything.

What happens when you switch units mid-way

Switch from Paragraphs to Sentences (or Words) and the Count field's range and its value both adjust automatically to that unit's own sensible bounds - you're never left with a leftover number that's out of range for the unit you just switched to. The "Wrap paragraphs in <p> tags" checkbox also hides itself outside Paragraphs mode, since HTML paragraph wrapping has no meaning for a handful of loose words or a single run of sentences.

If you type an out-of-range count by hand

Typing a number above or below the current unit's allowed range clamps it to the nearest valid value rather than rejecting it outright or crashing - the same behavior a native number input already gives you, applied consistently across all three units, so there's no invalid state to accidentally land in.

Nothing here is ever uploaded

There's genuinely nothing to upload in the first place - no file, no text you typed, nothing that leaves your machine. Every word is chosen and assembled locally, which is also part of why regenerating a batch, even at the maximum 50-paragraph count, is instant with no loading state to wait through.

After you click Copy

A small confirmation appears once the text is on your clipboard, so you're not left guessing whether the click actually worked - and if your browser blocks the automatic copy for any reason, the tool tells you plainly and the text is still right there, selectable by hand as a fallback.

Using it to test a translated or multi-length interface

Words mode is a quick way to preview how a label or tag component behaves at different lengths before real translations exist - generate a handful of short 2-3 word runs, then a longer 8-10 word one, and see whether a button or chip component truncates gracefully or breaks. It's not a substitute for testing with real translated strings once they exist (see the usecase guide for why), but it catches an obviously too-narrow container early, before any translator's time is spent on copy that won't fit anyway, which is a cheap check worth doing before a single real string is ever written.

For which unit actually fits what you're filling, see this guide. Or generate some text now.
